New Healthy Communities report from the National Health Performance Authority finds 90 per centof children in Northern Sydney are immunised.

A new report released yesterday into rates of child immunisations has found that the Northern Sydney Medicare Local area, has one of the healthier rates of childhood immunisation, compared to other areas in Sydney, for children aged under five years.

Children under five years of age who live in the Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Hunters Hills and Ryde areas, which are all within the Northern Sydney Medicare Local catchment area, had an averageimmunisation rate of 90 per cent.

The release of the National Health Performance Authoritys Healthy Communities Immunisation rates for children in 2011-2012 report will provide Northern Sydney Medicare Local with a baseline upon which to target community immunisation programs into the future.

We are currently setting up an Immunisation taskforce consisting of local clinical experts, saidMr Ramon del Carmen, CEO of Northern Sydney Medicare Local.

Whilst a 90 per cent immunisation rate is healthy, we will continue to strive for strong immunisation rates for children and the taskforce will continually look to make improvements to keep immunisation top of mind with young families, said Mr del Carmen.
