Supporting Best Practice for General Practice

09 May 2014

Since its inception two years ago, Northern Sydney Medicare Local, Primary Care Support Officer, Karen Aitken has helped hundreds of Doctors and General Practitioners including nurses and practice managers help deliver best practice general practice to their patients.

This week, Mrs Aitken, a formally trained nurse, visited Dr John DArcy, veteran General Practitioner and well known Television Doctor, who has just opened, The Clinic, a general practice in Beecroft.

Whilst Dr DArcy has worked for many years in general practice, this is his first time opening a practice and he says there has been so many changes.

Information Technology and infrastructure for the Doctor are the big changes, said Dr John DArcy.

Karen has been able to give me her expert advice in this area as well as provide tips on best practice, accreditation, vaccine management and after hours health services.

Its this synergy of creating best practice healthcare for patients as well as support for General Practice that lies at the heart of what Northern Sydney Medicare Local has been set up to do by the Commonwealth Government.

We are about improving the healthcare journey for both the patient and the team ofpeople, the Doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, who all work together toget the patient well or to stay well, said Mrs Aitken.

Dr DArcy agrees that its all about creating the best patient journey by workingtogether as a team to deliver the best care possible.

The patient is the team leader and we are all on your team, assisting you to makethe best decisions that will affect your health and wellbeing. said Dr DArcy.
