Healthy Community launches in Northern Sydney

12 December 2013

People in the Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Hunters Hill and Ryde local government areas can learn more about local healthcare services and programs available to them with a handy, new website launched this week by Northern Sydney Medicare Local (NSML).

The Healthy Community website, www.healthycommunity.org.au offers the community information in English and seven non-English languages on:

  • How to access local health services and after hours health services (evenings or weekends) using the intuitive National Health Service Directory
  • Tips to keep well
  • An A-Z of health information and local health support services
  • Local health events and news
  • Free local health programs offered by NSML for the community.

Commenting on the launch of the Healthy Community website, Paul Hussein, NSMLs Director - Community and Strategy said, We believe Healthy Community is the first website of its kind to be made available to the local community serviced by Northern Sydney Medicare Local.

As well as informing, the website encourages two-way conversation with the community on their health care experiences as well as polls community opinion on local needs. This feedback will help us to shape existing and future local health services, Mr Hussein continued.

In acknowledgement of the multicultural diversity of the region, in addition to English, the site offers seven different language translations including Chinese, Korean, Armenian, Hindi, Italian, Japanese and German.

The new online hub also invites local residents to take up free membership of the website, which provides timely updates on newly listed health services, health news and events.

We believe the Healthy Community website will be a useful tool for the community to find up-to-date local health information, day or night, concluded Mr Hussein.

Until March 2014, new Healthy Community members will be entered into a draw for a chance to win great prizes including an iPad Air, Rebel Sport vouchers as well as pamper sessions and fruit hampers. Winners will be drawn and notified in March 2014. Visit www.healthycommunity.org.au for details on how to join.
