New era for Australias health system

New era for Australias health system

09 September 2013

The AML Alliance has today welcomed the election of the Coalition Government following a gruelling five week election campaign.

AML Alliance CEO, Claire Austin said the peak body for Medicare Locals looks forward to maintaining the momentum for primary health care and frontline services.

Medicare Locals and the AML Alliance will be continuing their hard work in recalibrating the health system by alleviating the hospital sector through a strengthened primary health care system, Ms Austin said.

Obviously the Coalition Governments proposed review of Medicare Locals will be front and centre for our sector in the immediate future and we are confident it will show that enabling communities to plan and coordinate health services that best fit their local needs, through Medicare Locals, is sensible, cost-effective and delivering at the frontline, she said.

The AML Alliance also acknowledges the dedication of Nicola Roxon and Tanya Plibersek, who as Health Ministers, managed one of the most challenging portfolios in any administration and achieved significant gains especially in primary health care, tobacco control and public health, Ms Austin said.
