Elderly at risk as temperatures soar

04 January 2013

National Seniors Australia is warning the community to keep an eye out for the elderly as soaring temperatures hit Australia today. Forecasters have predicted much of the country will swelter under heat wave conditions with temperatures around 40 degrees expected over the next few days and possibly into next week.

National Seniors chief executive Michael O'Neill says "70-somethings are most at risk in severe heat. With this hot and humid weather we are expecting, we are asking people to check on their elderly neighbours and relatives to see if they are coping with the heat and if they need help,'' O'Neill said.
