Supporting carers - a simple way to give back

One of Northern Sydney Medicare Locals focus areas is Mental Health and the well-being of carers in the Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Ryde and Hunters Hill region.

According to the Mental Health Council of Australia and Carers Australia, an average carer spends approximately 40 hours per week providing care. It can go up to providing an average of 104 hours of care a week, if they are caring for someone with a mental illness.

October 2013 is Mental Health Month in NSW and NSML will be holding an event to focus on giving back to carers. We are expecting around 50- 70 carers for a half-day and in order to make this day a success, we are inviting you to provide support in the form of any donations that could be provided to carers in our pamper packs. Suitable items may include beauty products, candles, tea and prepackaged foods, for example chocolate. The idea is that we send our guests (carers) home with a pack of goodies that will act as a little bit of much deserved indulgence.

In return for your contribution, we will acknowledge your organisation on promotional materials associated with the event (which will be mentioned on NSMLs website, as well as any media releases), and any further acknowledgment on the day.

Any assistance you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated.
