Funding for music therapy outreach clinic in The Hills

Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia is a not-for-profit organisation at the University of Western Sydney, where they have operated for the past 10 years, providing internationally recognised music therapy.

Thanks to the generosity of the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, there has been funding to start up an outreach clinic in The Hills area (venue: Cherrybrook Community Centre). Currently this clinic will cater specifically for children with disability and will operate on Thursdays during school terms. There are plans to extend this service in the future to adults with disability and the older adults.

Children respond naturally to music and music opens up channels of communication. As well as working for developmental goals - mobility, coordination and speech for example, music can provide children with colourful, dynamic and nurturing experiences that strengthen relationships and enhance communication. Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy has previously worked very successfully in partnership with allied health professionals including speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, creating music therapy programs for clients that build on the developmental programs they are undertaking.
