Australian Prostate Cancer Research

PROSTMATE is a personalised online program for prostate cancer patients and their families providing tailored information, advice and support. The program includes a confidential online portal with online telehealth consultations, tools to track progress, treatments and appointments, and self-help modules to enhance health and wellbeing.

PROSTMATEs online platform enables men all over Australia to access the latest information on prostate cancer, tailored to their circumstances. The program provides much needed support to men with prostate cancer and their families in regional and rural areas.

Inequities in access to specialised health professionals for regional and rural Australians are a major issue for many people with complex chronic diseases, like prostate cancer. Through PROSTMATEs online telehealth consultations, patients can access prostate cancer experts from the comfort of their own home drastically reducing costs associated with travel time, city-based accommodation and loss of work productivity not to mention avoiding the frustrations of waiting rooms and carparking!

PROSTMATE has been available since November 2013 and many men, their partners, family and friends have joined the program. In addition, a variety of health professionals (including nurses, GPs, specialists and allied health) have signed up and are referring PROSTMATE to their patients to complement the care they provide in their own clinical setting.
