Antenatal Testing of HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and STIs workshop

Northern Sydney Medicare Loal and the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM) NSW successfully hosted the Antenatal Testing of HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and STIs workshop on 27 November at the Epping club.

The learning objectives of the evening included understanding the principles of gaining informed consent and conveying a test result; understanding the antenatal screening recommendations; and the antenatal and postnatal management of a woman with a Blood-Borne Virus (BBV) or Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI).

The contents consisted of antenatal screening, benefits and risks of testing, management during pregnancy and at delivery, informed consent for testing and barriers for administering the Hepatitis B birth-dose vaccination.

Guest speakers were Dr Brett Jones from Royal North Shore Hospital and Dr Victoria Hounsfield from Sexual Health Clinic 16. A total number of 33 attendees were at the workshop, which included GPs, nurses and other health professionals from the NSML area.
